The Swami Gimmick gets it's name from it's original use by Swamis or Mediums in demonstrations of Spirit Writing. There are several varieties of Gimmicks that serve this purpose.

The gimmicks supplied to you with a manuscript or what Corinda refers to as the "C" type, or under nail writer. It has a crescent shaped wing that fits under the nail of the thumb, and a little holder on top, which holds a piece of pencil lead.
