In this effect by Steve Dela a card is selected and returned to the deck. The cards are shuffled and the magician, very confidently attempts to find the chosen card! After a few failed attempts, he asks the spectator the name of their card. "The Queen of Hearts," the spectator declares. "Really," the magician responds, "that’s strange because that is exactly how much I paid for this deck!" The spectator looks confused, and the performer picks up the card case and instructs them to look at the barcode. It reads, "I KNOW YOU CHOSE THE QUEEN OF HEARTS!"

Larry Becker and Lee Earle want you to imagine sitting at a restaurant table with a group of people, saying, "Before you decide it's impossible for words alone to influence your choices, consider why corporations spend 26 billion dollars a year in product and brand advertising."
"A friend in the ad business, John Shrell, agreed to share a few insider tips to show how it works," you continue, "With the condition that he be allowed to verify my success. So when we finish, we'll have to make a phone call to satisfy him. He owes me lunch at (a local fine restaurant) if I show him I've learned enough. Here's his toll-free number." You write it on a paper napkin of a packet of Sweet' n 'Low and toss it on the table in full view.
Nearby items are quickly grouped in the center of the table - a salt shaker, a spoon, a glass, a packet of Equal, a napkin - the normal things found on most restaurant tables. Then you continue, "All but one item will be eliminated in the fairest way possible."
Here's how it's done," you explain, "Everyone will take turns pulling two items slightly away from the others. One of them will be eliminated and the other will be returned to the center. But first, I'll attempt to influence your decision by using marketing terms. Just keep in mind, the final choice will always be yours."
As each pair of items is selected, you describe them with advertising hyperbole and 'buzz words', "You are deciding between a clean, shiny spoon and a sensible, conventional pepper shaker," or "You're evaluating the fragile shaker full of sweet, delicious sugar and a sturdy cup for a man-sized serving of robust coffee."
One by one the participants around the table cull the assortment of items until only one remains, for example, the napkin. "I'm surprised," you admit, "how dependable certain words are for influencing choices."
"But don't take my word for it," you continue, "Let's call John to verify." Offer your cell phone to the person holding the number you wrote earlier. "Go ahead, make the call. Let John know he owes me lunch." A voice mail message answers the call on John's line; he apologizes for being unavailable to take the call, and asks the caller to leave a 30-second message - especially if the caller is holding the thought of a napkin!

In this effect by Andrew Gerard a broken pocket watch is displayed and proved to the audience that it does not work. A spectator is selected and shown that the watch hands spin when the stem is pulled, but that’s all.
It is held to the spectator’s ear, but as the watch is broken it does not tick and the hands don’t move. The performer then announces that he is going to set a time on that watch between now and the approximate time his show ends, and then gives it to a spectator, informing them that at any time during the show, even if he is in the middle of another trick, to yell out, “Now is the time!”
At the most inopportune time in the show, the spectator calls out, “Now is the time!” The audience verifies the actual time, and when the watch is opened it is seen to be set to that exact time.

Effect 1
The Magi begins with explaining that timing is a critical element to any illusion’s success, and in this next feat of magic it is the very essence of time that will be manipulated! He removes his watch and has a spectator hold on to it. Then he borrows a quarter and has its owner sign it with a permanent marker. He informs the audience that he is able to travel back into the past by a burst of about 10 minutes! “The only way I can prove this,” he says, “is to go back into time and to place this marked coin at a location that’s physically impossible, during this current time and location!” He asks the spectator who’s holding the watch to look at the second hand and to count off five seconds, beginning at five and ending at zero. He closes his fingers over the marked coin and at the end of the count the coin is seen to instantly vanish! “It didn’t actually vanish, that would be impossible,” he says. “What really happened was I went back into time by about 10 minutes and placed the marked coin at an impossible location!” He asks the spectator who has been holding his watch the entire time to pull up on its face. Suddenly, the attractive watch-face pops up and hinges to the right, revealing a solid metal base-plate underneath! He asks that they twist the plate off and remove it. This is done and to everyone’s astonishment, the signed coin is found inside the solid cavity of the watch! This occurs all while the watch face continues to tell perfect time – or does it? The magician points out to his spectators that the time is now off by about ten minutes… the exact amount of time he claimed to travel back into the past!
It doesn’t get anymore entertaining and magical than this, folks! Effect 2
The TIME PERCEPTION watch is also used to perform stunning card effects! The same story regarding time travel can be used or you can substitute your own patter, here. The magician hands out his watch and explains that the element of time is critical to this next feat of magic, therefore, will someone please “time” him. Then he has someone select a card from the deck and he openly tears off a large corner of that card (which contains the cards suit and nomination). He hands the larger portion of the card back to the spectator and keeps the other portion. Then with a magical wave the magician’s portion of the card easily vanishes into thin air! After some additional build-up and anticipation, he requests that the individual holding his watch pull up on its face, which pops up and swivels to the right! He reiterates that at no point has he had any contact with the watch, which was in the hands of the spectator well before the card was ever selected. Then he asks the spectator to pop off the solid metal base and inside the enclosed cavity of the watch is the missing corner of the card! It’s removed and matched up against the other portion of the card by the spectator -- it’s a perfect match!
The magician never touches the watch at any point!
He allows them to remove the corner and place it against the other portion of the card, which has been held the entire time by a spectator. THE HALVES MATCH PERFECTLY! That is because it really is the original piece to the selected card!
