You tell your audience you are about to teach them a trick. Show them this jumbo card with one pip (a diamond), in full view. Turn the card over to show 4 pips. When you turn it over again, there are now 3 pips. Another turn shows six. As you show how this is done, you somehow wind up with 8 pips!

This is an off beat and different close-up effect, which can even be presented with a social message if you choose. A possible presentation could be as follows:
Performer displays a small pillbox. He opens it and displays a yellow pill or tablet, which seems to fill the entire box. This he says is an "Upper" or a pick up tablet for spells of depression, when nothing seems to be going right. He removes the tablet from the box, closes it, and apparently swallows the tablet. The problem with "Uppers" he explains is that sometimes they over act, leaving the person boisterous, and often restless. So the logical follow-up is a "Downer" to calm down.
Box is opened and now there is a pink tablet inside. This is removed, the empty box closed, and the tablet apparently swallowed. The performer now patters to the effect that the "Downer" brings back the depression and an "Upper" seems the only logical solution. Box is opened and there is a yellow tablet inside. This is removed, the empty box closed, and the tablet apparently swallowed.
This business of alternately producing yellow and pink tablets from an empty box can be repeated as often as you wish. The first time it can be done very slowly and deliberately, and if you hasten your movements, and speed up the patter, four or five repeats can be quite effective. Finally you take the yellow tablet and put it in your pocket. The pink tablet appears in the empty box. This is again removed and placed in the pocket. When the box is opened again there is a message inside, which can be serious or funny depending on your performing style.
This trick can be used effectively to send a Just Say "NO" message in children shows. If you exaggerate your reactions to the pills and show that they can do no good, the message will be received and taken to heart through this entertaining trick.

This is one of the cleverest of all Magic Painting effects. Performer picks up a "Do-it-yourself Instant Art Kit". From a large window envelope he removes a large black and white picture. Having freely displayed this it is placed back once more inside the envelope. It never for an instant leaves the sight of the audience.
Next a colored streamer is picked up and swirled around the air. Now for the magic! The streamer is given one or two flicks, the colors visibly leaving the streamer plain black. If you wish, a shower of confetti can appear at this time. When the picture is removed from its envelope it is now found to be beautifully painted in colors!
The trick is easy to do, self-contained, packs flat, looks big in a show and is always ready. The color-changing streamer adds variety to the presentation and in fact enables you to work the whole trick in your hands if you wish. The Instant Art comes with the streamer as this makes a slicker presentation.
