ONE WAY by REV. BOB SPARKS

oneway.jpg (23580 bytes)

The "HIGH SIGN" or "ONE WAY SIGN" has been very popular with Gospel magicians for a long time. However, here is an entirely new "twist" on this grand old trick. It's just this simple:

1st - ARROW GOES RIGHT - THEN LEFT. (Just like many people ... don't know where they are going).

2nd - ARROW THEN OPENS UP TO A LARGE HIGHWAY MAP. (People running east and west and still don't know where they are going).

3rd - ARROW THEN GOES UP AND DOWN. (Some are going up but many are going down)

4th - ARROW OPENS UP AGAIN TO PAGES OF HOLY SCRIPTURE. I am the way, etc.…

5th - ARROW KEEPS POINTING UP (After the Scripture is read)

6th - ARROW AGAIN OPENS UP AND LARGE HAND POINTING UP AND SAYING "ONE WAY". You would have to see the effect and impact this trick has to really appreciate it. Bob Sparks handles it masterfully and truly delights the audience. If you already have the skill and know how for this grand old trick, then you'll want this deluxe model made strictly for the Gospel performer. Very well made.

ZEBRA/HORSE SILK ROUTINE

This funny routine by Duane Laflin and Henry Smith comes complete with a tear apart vanish bag. The set includes three silk scarves; one Zebra, one Black Horse and one White Horse. The story goes something like this...

"You've had probably heard of fairy tales and fables. They are stories that come from the world of imagination. Some of your favorites might be Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Sleeping Beauty, or Cinderella. Here is a fable that comes from the jungle. I have been told that old men and women in jungle camps make up stories to tell young people about things seen and heard in the trees, bushes, grasslands and waterholes that surround where they live.

This story is about a horse. It was white. It did not like its color. It could be heard to complain as it trotted through the forest, 'Oh why do I have to be white! I get dirty so fast. Stains and mud look so ugly when in my hair. I wish I was a different color. Actually, I wish I was a black horse. That would be much better.'

One day, as this horse pranced along through the bushes and trees, it found a magic cave." At this point, bring out the ‘Empty Bag.’ "The horse was excited about this. It had heard that when in a magic cave, if one turns around three times and makes a wish, it will come true. So it turned around three times and wished it was a black horse!" Turn the bag around three times. Then pull out the black horse picture.

"Unbelievably, the wish came true. When the horse came out of the cave, it had turned black! For awhile it was very excited about this. But after a while, it began to complain. Pretty soon the horse could be heard to say, 'Why did I want to be black. Now it is hard for the other horses to see me at night. It is hard for me to show off and get attention when I'm not the brightest horse in the jungle!' So it trotted off to the magic cave once again. Place black horse picture into the bag. "Inside the cave, it turned around three times and wished to be a white horse like it used to be." Bring the white horse picture back up out of the bag.

"For a while it was very happy to be back to its old self. But guess what? After a while, it began to complain! It said, 'Now that I'm white again, it is hard to hide when the lion comes by. And it is so hard to keep myself clean. I think I will go back to black! So yet again it returned to the magic cave." Place the white horse picture back into the bag. "Inside the cave it started to wish to be black again. Then it hesitated. It thought it was good to be black, but also good to be white. It couldn't decide which was better. While it stood there thinking about it there was an earthquake! The cave started to shake and fall apart!"

"When the cave fell apart, the horse was left in the middle of making up its mind. So when it walked out of the cave, it was part black and part white. Since the magic cave was destroyed, it stayed this way for the rest of its life, and that is how the Zebra came to be!" Hold up Zebra Silk.

"Remember this is just a jungle fairy tale. Yet it is a good story and it does have a moral. The moral is, "A wise person, thinks things through and makes good decisions. Once good decisions are made, he is patient and faithful to follow his goals. It is silly to be the kind of person who is always changing his or her mind and who never follows things through to the end".

Note. Depending on your audience, you may leave the moral aspect of the story out and just present the entire thing as a magical fairy tale. If you want to tailor this routine idea for adults, the story could begin with a statement such as "Ladies and gentlemen, the legend of the horse that could not make up its mind!" Then tell some jokes about indecision and take a comedy approach to the matter of the horse going into the bag.

With the right angle on patter, these silks can be used to entertain all age groups! For Gospel Magicians There is a great opportunity to build on this story by saying, "The time does come when people need to make up their minds about what they are going to be. (Don't be like the Zebra, caught in the middle of indecision) An example is found in the book of Joshua (Joshua 24:15) where the man Joshua stood before the people of Israel and told them "Choose you this day whom ye will serve". The term "this day" meant now is the time to make up your mind. Don't put off the decision any longer. Don't keep trying to be several things at the same time. Don't keep wondering about whether or not you will do the right thing. In particular, he was telling the people to decide once and for all that they would live for God. As it was for the people in the time of Joshua, so it is for our time. Today is when we need to decide our spiritual identity. We must not delay the decision and we must not waver on the manner. Let's make sure that it is our definite commitment that we will be loyal to God!"

WIREGRAM CROSS

This effect comes to us from Silicon Valley, the hi-tech center of the world. It is one of the most original effects to be introduced to the magic community in years! It will become one of your favorite tricks; and you can do it anywhere!

The magician shows a piece of wire, very much like that used in electronic hookups. The wire can be twisted into any shape you desire. The wire is then dipped into any hot beverage, and it instantly and visibly forms itself into a cross. The cross is about 2  inches tall! Immediately, the wire can be straightened and re-used over and over again.

For a second effect you can also wrap the WIREGRAM in flash paper, light it and the cross will appear. Or you can heat the wire with a cigarette lighter or other flame. You won't believe your eyes when you see this amazing trick work!!
