Sometimes, card tricks are not used in Christian work due to the negative image they may project. The playing cards themselves are not evil in nature, but the way they may be used, such as for gambling or fortune telling, is wrong to some people. A great way to overcome this image is to do illustrations with alphabet or number cards.
This book combines tricks with both alphabet and number cards. You may be able to get a deck of alphabet cards and a deck of number cards from the place you purchased this book, from a local novelty store, or a store that sells board games. Several of these effects can be made up in a jumbo size using large letters or numbers printed on 81/2" x 11" card stock.
There are no difficult moves in this book and every illustration is almost self working. Del has included in the book several effects that use a "one under, one up" type of deal. Although the method is basically the same in each trick, the outcome of each illustration is entirely different. The change bag has always been one of Del Wilson's favorite utility props. He bought his first one when I was twelve years old and has used it in many routines over the years. Several times in the past, people have asked him if he would ever write a book about 12 GOSPEL TRICKS WITH A CHANGE BAG. At first he thought he couldn't see much purpose for a book about the change bag. But after observing that the change bag was primarily being used as a means to produce, vanish, or change the color of a silk handkerchief, and nothing more, he realized such a book may be in order. Magician shows small packet of cards (business card size). A large cross is printed on them. He has spectator initial the top card and hands it to the spectator, who finds his initials still on the card but a large sign on the cross stating: "HE DIED FOR YOU". This is a take-off on the secular trick "Out To Lunch" which Tony Birch once adapted to a Gospel application "Gone To Church". This is very easy to do and you get a very generous supply of cards.
