The compact disc is an ideal item for magic. Its iridescent light-reflecting qualities make it attractive and highly visible, and it doesn't look like a 'magic prop.' Here is one of the most surprising, mystifying and direct effects possible with a CD: After showing both sides of a CD you appear to make it to pass instantly through the folds of a silk handkerchief-visibly!
The silk now impossibly runs through the center hole in the CD! Holding both ends of the silk in one hand, you pull on the CD showing that it is indeed imprisoned on the silk. For a stunning finale you now slowly raise the silk which visibly penetrated the CD, apparently melting through it! Both may be freely shown! No threads! Nothing used besides the CD and a silk (not supplied). The moves are easy to learn from the photo instructions. Yes, it's a REAL CD!

You show a card with four spots on it. Three of the spots are green, with one red spot. Place the card behind your back, and when it is brought forward, the red spot has changed position. The audience thinks you just turned it around behind your back, but all at once ALL the spots change color!

Show a frame and remove the portrait of Houdini. Reassemble the frame, and cover it with a cloth. Tear up the photo, giving a small piece to the spectator. Place the pieces into the included paper cone, and they vanish. Uncover the frame, and Houdini is restored, except for the spectator's piece.

This is one of those effects, which cannot be fully appreciated until performed. The stunned look on the faces of your audience members is worth a million dollars.
One of the strengths of this effect -- even in its many earlier versions -- is the fact that the magic seems to happen in the spectators hand. As you know, anything done in the spectator's hand is extremely powerful.
The exciting element of the method in this effect is that the exchange of the bills happens visibly and without any cover. Another strong point is that both bills are borrowed!
In effect, a $1 bill and a $10 bill are borrowed and folded into small packets. The spectator holds onto the $10 bill as you take the $1 bill. With the bill in plain sight, it visibly changes to the $10 bill. The spectator opens his hand and finds that he now has the $1 bill. Everything may now be examined. This trick is as much fun to practice as it is to perform, and because the gimmicks do all the work for you, you are able to concentrate on the performance and routine. Magic by Gosh has done it again. They have come out with an effect that is easy to do, very visual from stage or parlor and audience pleasing. This is a similar effect to the growing ball but much larger. Imagine a small red sponge ball is shown. Clowns can say that this is an extra clown nose. The sponge ball is placed into your closed fist and visibly it begins to grow.
The ball gets bigger and bigger until it reaches a diameter of approximately five inches. You will love to do this effect at every performance. Makes a great carry gag for the M.C. or clown. Wonderful as a finale to a sponge ball routine.
