COMEDY MAGIC
THE SECRET WAND by BILL RAGSDALE
After performing a magic illusion often the audience will ask "How did you do that?" Sometimes this is verbalized but often it can be seen in their facial expressions of awe and amazement. They want to know the secret.
Realizing this desire on their part I ask, "How many would like to see the secret? Put your hand up if you would." (some hands go up) "Those who have not put their hands up will have to bow their head and close their eyes... I mean I could get thrown out of the magic society for revealing the secret." (pause briefly and look around) "Those who would really like to see the secret raise your hands. (more hands go up - pause briefly) "O.K. Here's the secret!" (unroll banner wand showing can of secret deodorant...wait a few seconds for audience to smile/laugh).
As I roll the wand up often I will remark, "You really fell for that one - but most folks do" (laugh or smile along with them)
Reactions will vary but this prop will always produce amusement. Remember your timing and that the emphasis is on SEEING the secret and not telling/hearing it. Have fun with your audience!

This funnel is made for a large capacity of water or milk. The one on the right is made from plastic in China. The one on the left is spun aluminum. It comes from Canada. The center one is brass plated. Great to use with the milk pitcher.

The Super Funnel is a Magic Funnel which will produce a liquid (Water, Milk etc.) when ever the performer wishes. This model will also permit you to "vanish" a small tumbler of liquid. The Funnel can also be shown "empty" between productions, or after a vanish by turning it over.
The funnel works on a slightly different principle to the usual Comedy Funnel. There is no air hole to control the flow of liquid. Instead the stem of the funnel works like a tap which you can turn on and off under your control. The Tap arrangement is much more sophisticated than the system traditionally used for this item. If you twist the stem clockwise, the tap is closed. A slight counter-clockwise turn of about 10 to 15 degrees will open the tap and the liquid will flow. It is very easy to operate the funnel without looking at it.
The Comedy Funnel is a classic prop, and most performers will have ideas of their own for its presentation. Your presentation can be funny and wholesome or risqué and naughty according to your presentation style. One common presentation is to have an audience helper on stage, have him drink a glass of water and have the water flow out through the funnel from his mouth, ears, elbow, or where ever you wish.
An effective variation would be to pour water into a pocket, bag etc, through the funnel. (Tap closed, to vanish water). This can later be reproduced from some other spot. (Tap opened).
Yet another very effective presentation is to have a spectator on stage, and pretend to "Brain wash" him. Spectator is seated on a chair with two plastic tubes held by him, one to each ear. Liquid is apparently poured into one ear (Through the funnel with tap closed) and emerges through the other ear, again from the funnel. This sort of presentation has scope for a lot of comedy, calling up a volunteer with a "dirty mind" and "Brain washing" him.
Yet another funny scenario involves milking an "Invisible Cow". You apparently milk the cow into the funnel, with the milk turning visible as it emerges. The funnel can also be used to add a magical third dimension to a flat two dimension picture. For example draw a tap on a slate. Hold the funnel to the mouth of the tap and real water flows out. Or draw a beer or wine cask on a board, then hold funnel to the cask and have beer or wine emerge.
The funnel is made of brass and chrome plated, and if cleaned properly before use, can be made to hold most liquids. With the Super funnel, the repeat production feature permits you to use it as a running gag like a Lota Bowl. Make a production, turn funnel over and place it aside. After a few effects pick it up, as if performing this for the first time, and repeat the effect. Performed a couple of times this become funnier with each repeat.
The ability to vanish liquid poured into the funnel on stage adds many possibilities to your comedy routines. Once you play around with the prop you will find a presentation to appeal to your specific tastes.
