CARD MAGIC
ZOOM by BEN HARRIS
This effect is one of Ben Harris' most closely guarded secrets. He's been sitting on this for over ten years, using it privately for the most important occasions only. It is Ben's very favorite trick of all time because it meets all of his personal requirements for the ideal effect.
If you are familiar with Ben's previous writings, you will know that he has always insisted that the very strongest magical effects appear to violate natural law. As an example, "levitation" has always been one of the magician's most powerful effects because gravity appears to be controlled. Zoom certainly appears to violate the laws of nature. Further to this, the effect appears perfectly natural and effortless at every stage of performance.
The object to be animated is 100% examinable - (even though it is cleverly gimmicked) and the lead-in and lead-out consists of perfectly normal actions in every way. The effect per se (between the lead-in and lead-out) looks exactly like real magic. In fact, nothing appears to be contrived at all. Further more, the effect is tamper proof. It matters not if a testy spectator grabs your hands or the animated object at any point during performance. Nothing will be discovered and you can instantly pick up where you left off without any worries. Isn't this just as it would be if you had real magical powers? These positive attributes make Zoom the almost perfect magical demonstration of supposed psychokinetic powers.
Like all good ideas, this one is very simple. However, to meet all of the above criteria, Mr. Harris has thought it all through in a thorough manner over the years. His instructions are detailed to make it very easy to follow. Nothing about Zoom is difficult to do.
A playing card is selected from the deck and examined. The spectators are asked specifically to look for "threads, motors and trap-doors" - anything devious. After the card is examined, the performer turns attention to himself. He turns up his sleeves and asks that his hands be inspected for anything suspicious. The table surface is also carefully inspected. Once the examination ritual is out of the way, the performer announces an attempted experiment in mind over matter.
The playing card is tabled and the spectators asked to gather in closely. The performer now waves his palm-down hand in magical passes over the tabled card. He furrows his brow as if attempting to create a magical spell.
After a few moments of intense concentration, the card comes to life and moves this way and that - away-from the performer's hand - across the tabletop. It shimmies along, seemingly with a life of its own, all the way into one of the spectator's waiting hands. Once again, all may be examined and then the effect repeated. This is one of those rare effects where an immediate repeat actually deepens the mystery without increasing the, possibility of the audience detecting the method.

Performer counts four face down cards from hand to hand. He turns the cards face up, spreads them to display two black cards and two red cards, Let us assume they are Six of Spades, Six of Clubs Six of Hearts and Six of Diamonds.
He squares the cards and turns them face down. Next he reverses the bottom two red cards face up and fans them. He places the top two face down black cards of the fan on a spectator's palm still face down and two face up red cards inside his pocket.
After a magic pass he turns the cards on the spectator's palm face up. Surprise! They are no longer black cards; they are Six of Hearts and Six of Diamonds. He removes the Six of Spades and Clubs from his pocket. He hands over all the four cards to the spectators for examination. We supply you all the cards necessary for the trick, including a special gaffed card.

VANISHING DECK (ULTRA THIN) (INDIA)
This beautiful effect comes to us from India. You remove a deck of cards from a thin box. The box is placed in your left hand. A card is removed from the deck and shown to the spectator. The card is then placed back inside the card case and the flap is closed. The card case is slid into the thin box as you say to the spectator, "If I could make the card vanish from the deck it would be a pretty good trick, but what if the whole deck vanished, that would be a miracle".

POKER MYSTERY by FANTASIO
Wow! A card trick from Fantasio. Many new magicians know this name only from the fantastic canes and candles he produces. Old timers, like me, remember him from the Ed Sullivan Show and what a fantastic manipulator he was and still is. Any trick that has the Fantasio name attached to it will always be top-notch.
The magician shows five cards: One ACE and four FIVES. Mysteriously, the ACE changes into a FIVE and the FIVES into ACES. Since the cards are specially gimmicked for this effect, don't hesitate to spread them almost completely. If you prefer you may start with ACES and finish with FIVES. Comes in standard bicycle backs.

The performer shows the audience a fully examinable set of three cards that are held together tightly by a nut and bolt. A spectator is asked to disassemble the set and examine it. The magician then takes the set back and reassembles it. He takes out two rubber bands to hold the top and bottom card in place. He then asks the spectator to pull the middle card out from in between them, even though it appears to be held in place tightly by the nut and bolt. The spectator does so, and the card penetrates the bolt!! The card can then be examined!!
