Here is a card location that is hard to beat. A card is selected, placed into the pack, cards shuffled and placed on a spectator's outstretched hand. The cards will separate automatically at the point where the selected card is located.
Now and again the art of magic has ingenious gimmicks. With this gimmick you can do the effect described above without any sleight of hand. Because it sounds too great to be true let me break a magician's rule and tell you how it works. The gimmick consists of the teeniest little "beads" made from a material, which can be readily carried around, applied invisibly in front of the spectator and will roll off the card when the effect is over. Take any card from a deck. You don't need to force it. Put it back into the deck. The magician shuffles the deck and spreads the deck with the cards face down, making a row. Then the magician shows his new car, the latest model in the market, the Crystal Car. He makes it roll on top of the row of cards, showing it can go forward and backwards.
He places the car at the beginning of the row, and then the spectator must put his forefinger on the car and make it roll. As he moves the car, something astonishing happens: the car stops on top of a card he turns it over and... miracle! It's the selected one!
