19/20: THOUGHTS & STUFF FROM TWO YOUNG MAGICIANS by LINIAN & CRADDOCK

From the book
"Magic is something that makes life so much better. It's like something that people can believe in, something that can't be explained. this is why we all like it so much, I think. We all want to think that there is some other power out there. You know? Something more to life that we don't understand but we can see. Magic is something that everyone is born with, and I think when you get older you lose a little of it until there is just nothing left. And, once you have realized you lost it, you would do anything to get it back. That's what I think magic is, might not make any sense to you. I 'm sure you have a totally different idea. And I won't lie. you are kind of the one that helped me to see it that way which you should be proud of. I think that's kind of your purpose being a magician and all. What's magic mean to you?"
Excerpt from Justin Craddock's Introduction
"Writing this book has made me think a lot. This book started off just being a book with answer and other people's definitions of magic. What we have here is more. I originally wanted a book that got people to think and define magic for themselves. I wanted magicians to realize magic is more than tricks, presentations, and patter. The original purpose of the book was just to get magicians and others to think. The idea evolved and so did the book and what we have here is thoughts an ideas. you may agree with some of what is said in this book or you may disagree 100 percent. I do not claim to know more or less than other magicians, I just wrote some of what I believe to be true from experience. This book is geared to get you to think. That's it; to define magic for yourself and hopefully help you to understand why you do the things you do whether it is cards, coins, mentalism, or sponge balls. I offer nothing but my own opinion in my essays and I hope my opinion does not offend you, it was not meant to."
Excerpt from Alex Linian's Introduction:
"According to what I've heard many magicians say, I will regret writing this book ten years from now. by then, my performance style will have changed; the effects I'm writing down will have evolved. My way of thinking will also be different. I'll be saying to myself; 'What was I thinking?'"

SECRETS OF DR. TAO by DOCC HILFORD

Three Original Close-Up Monu-Mental Effects Designed For Walk Around Cocktail Parties.
From the Secret Books of Dr. Tao come three original tricks of the mind. In this tome the mysterious doctor also reveals three of his innermost ancient secrets to effective mentalism. Each lesson is more than merely an outstanding original effect, it's a lesson that can be applied to mentalism students already perform.
Desire - A participant writes an item she desires on a piece of paper and leaves another paper blank. No matter how much the participant mixes the two papers; no matter how well she hides them from his sight, without even a glance in her direction, he is able to reveal which paper has the desire and where it is! This is repeated until finally the paper is burned. Although any item imagined was written on the paper and Dr. Tao never handled it, the ashes seem to form the desire in front of the participant's eyes!
Twin Swans - Dr. Tao writes a fortune for a young couple on a borrowed scrap of paper. The woman mentally chooses a card. Her partner is shown the faces of the cards and reaches out to take a card of his choice. It is the same card as that in his girlfriend's mind! And the fortune also has the name of the mentally chosen card written on it.
Bound Blossoms - Dr. Tao shows a large red envelope. A man goes through a borrowed deck of cards one at a time. A woman goes through a handful of page corners cut from a magazine. A third woman tells them both when to stop. The red envelope is opened. Inside is a sealed yellow envelope. A member of the audience removes a folded sheet of paper. Written on it in large black writing is a prediction containing the chosen page number and the chosen card! Everything is examinable! And with the exception of the prediction, can be borrowed.
Each trick is a reputation maker, specially design by Dr. Tao to be used at cocktail parties or banquets.
But there is much more to this little book than just three fine mentalist tricks. The lessons hold ancient secrets that demonstrators of true mystery must know. Most of the secret books of Dr. Tao were lost, but in a dusty bookshop in Chinatown, Docc Hilford has uncovered Volume IX, Book 6 in this monumental series.
"And after all is said and done, it's really all a lot of fun." - Dr. Tao

BALLOON SCULPTURE WITH A TOUCH OF MAGIC by ALAN KINDER

This book was prompted with the help of Fr. Louis Iasello. Fr. Lou, on casual terms, is one of those rare individuals with the innate enthusiasm to go above and beyond the call of duty. What better illustration of this fact than to point out, that while performing the demanding duties of a Naval officer in the Chaplain's Corps, Fr. Lou recruited a handful of sailors on board the USS Ranger, transforming them into a troop of clowns.
The "Ranger Clowns, " as the troop grew to be called visited orphanages and children's hospitals in such ports of call as Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, and the Philippine Islands. With the help of Fr. Lou, the author first learned basic balloon sculpture. In similar fashion of going above and beyond the call of duty, the author went on to create a few new figures. The process of cultivation compiled figures and included magic tricks with balloons; this book being the end result. The author sets forth the challenge to play with basic twists to create some figures of your own.
The author also encourages experimentation and presentation of magic effects with balloon sculpture. Magic is one art; balloon sculpture is yet another art. Combined they produce Balloon Sculpture With a Touch of Magic.
