SMALL BUT DEADLY by PAUL HALLAS

Subtitled "The Packet Trickster's Handbook," this publication is Paul Hallas's random walk through packet trick history. This fascinating read is both a review of the development and methods behind some of the best card tricks done with small packets. To this Paul has added new tricks by himself along with some from Peter Duffie, Stephen Tucker, Martin Lewis, Al Smith and others.
In addition Paul discusses the contributions to the genre by Peter Kane, Alex Elmsley, Phil Goldstein, Roy Walton, Emerson & West, Brother Hamman, Dai Vernon, Nick Trost, Bruce Cervon, Larry Jennings, Aldo Colombini, Ed Marlo, Ronnay, just to name a few. By no means the final word on packet tricks (he's got to leave something for the next volume!), this is still one of the most thorough - and entertaining - card books. The book ha a hard cover with dust jacket and contains 174 pages.
"I started reading Small But Deadly yesterday morning and became so engrossed in the contents that I couldn't put it down until I finished it. One of the best books I've read in a long time." - Peter Duffie
Think of it as a consumer's guide to packet tricks. It will point you in the direction of some of the greatest packet tricks ever created. If you are interested in close up magic, you will find this book an essential reference. In fact, if you are simply interested in magic, who invented what or magic history, you will find this a great read.

ARTFUL MENTALISM OF BOB CASSIDY

It has taken more than twenty years, but Bob Cassidy, a founding member of the Psychic Entertainers' Association and one of the most influential and colorful creators of modern mentalism, has finally written a worthy successor to The Art of Mentalism! When the latter was first published in 1983, it was immediately recognized as a classic in the field and is on the "top ten" lists of many leading mentalists. We predict that this volume will eclipse the acclaim as the first.
The first half of the book, reprints his Art of Mentalism 2 (a complete professional performance thoroughly explained), and his four Principia Mentalia volumes. As if that were not enough, the second half gives permanent form to 3 limited distribution manuscripts:

CUPS AND BALLS ROUTINE by DENNIS LOOMIS

Thirty-two excellent photographs and 9 diagrams show every detail! A classical routine with traditional props and effects, but with exceptionally clean handling and extreme economy of motion. Table hoppers - this routine resets during performance!
The Three Ball Assembly phase is the cleanest ever devised for the Cups and Balls. The audience sees three tabled balls covered one at a time by three cups, but a moment later, all three balls are under the center cup. It looks like real magic to laymen, and has fooled many knowledgeable magicians.
The Smash Color Change is visually startling, and provides perfect misdirection for one of the final loads. This routine is designed to be done seated, working from a set of saddle bags ala Don Alan. The Dennis Loomis saddle bags are described with 3 photographs to enable you to make your own.
What People Are Saying
"Denny, you have the best cups routine in magic. You have gotten rid of the awful false placements, the wand, sliding balls under cups, etc...You are light years ahead of what everybody else is doing. I thought so when I saw you do it 30 years ago: still think so today. My four favorite cups routines are yours, the Johnny Paul, Tommy Wonder, and Fred Kaps. But you win. Your angles are better, and you cover the balls with the cups. (Gee what a brilliant concept) Your routine should replace Vernon 's as the standard!" - Bill Nagler M.D., March 2005
"The Dennis Loomis Cups and Balls Routine is a wonderful lesson in the cups and Balls. Because of its, simplicity, directness, and good teaching, I highly recommend this book." - Doug Atkinson on the Magic Talk Web Site.
"I first saw this routine about 30 years ago. I still haven't seen a better one." - Hank Moorehouse
The book is paperback, 20 pages on Handsome Stock, with full color cover.
