DOUG EDWARDS' PACKS A WALLOP by HARRY LORAYNE

This book really does 'pack a wallop. There isn't an item in this book that isn't practical, doable, and useful. I've no doubt that many of the effects and routines will become reputation-makers for you. Harry Lorayne writes For those of you who've been kind enough to ask (I haven't written a magic book in some time), I need to be excited about something in order to write a book. And that simply hasn't happened in years.
Doug performed a lot of magic for me, magic that he hadn't, as yet, contributed to anyone or shown me. And that excited me! So it became a book called Doug Edwards' Packs A Wallop. That's the point. When that kind of excitement hits I simply have to let others know about it. I have to purge myself, get it out. For me, that kind of excitement becomes a book!
There's no question in my mind that Doug Edwards' magic in this book will excite you just as it excited me. It will definitely raise the average of "quantity diffusing quality" to an enormous degree! If you're excited by easy-to-do magic that's direct, new, subtle, effective-magic that fools-then, I'm happy and pleased to tell you that I've given you just that by writing many of Doug's effects and routines in Doug Edwards Packs A Wallop. What we're talking about here is quantity and quality.

LA MONICA'S BALLOON SCULPTURE # 1 BY JOE LA MONICA

Joe La Monica, magician, hypnotist and a leader in the balloon-sculpturing field has added many new ideas to this fascinating hobby. He has proven that it can be fun and profitable to create balloon figures. The color and the action of sculpting with balloons entertain children and adults alike. With the advent of shopping malls, balloon sculpturing has been found to be a traffic-builder and an exciting addition to a shopper's routine. Children, the primary market at the malls, carry the balloons around. Before retirement Mr. La Monica could often be seen at Kings Plaza Shopping Mall, Brooklyn, New York sculpting balloons for children of all ages.
Balloons have been a source of pleasure for many years, being synonymous with children and fun. Balloon figures or sculptures came into being almost 40 years ago. According to Charles Marlo, a professional magician, the first person to use balloon sculpturing as a full act was a French magician performing in a Paris nightclub. Lou Tannen, an authority in his own right, agreed with Marlo. Suffice it to say that sculpturing is a seasoned art and over the years its intrigue has never waned.
With the advent of the Pencil balloon, a long skinny affair, more areas for shaping were opened to men of imagination. The sculpturing suddenly took a leap for- ward and many innovations have been presented. George Sands, to mention only one, has contributed much to the art of balloon modeling. Almost every balloon sculptor with imagination has come up with some innovative uses of various shaped balloons. So to say that a particular shape or formation is the sole effort of one individual is unfair. It is a growing art only because ideas are constantly being shared.
In this book you will find some old and many original ideas. The tricycle, coyote, clowns, horse, monkey, peace dove and many others are La Monica's contribution to augmenting the art. Enjoy them. Once you have mastered the shaping of even one animal you will have established yourself as the Pied Piper of all children's gatherings.

DON'T FORGET TO POINT or THE BOOK by THE FLICKING FINGERS

The Flicking Fingers are a group of German close-up magicians who became famous after giving a highly acknowledged lecture at FISM IN 1997. This book published by Kauffman and Co. came out in 1998. There were few ads for it yet it is one of the best books on magic on the market. The book is divided into 4 parts: close-up, cards, ideas and theory.
Some of the best effects from Don't Forget to Point are:
Tweezers: You use a pair of tweezers to visibly produce 2 coins. Then the tweezers visibly change into a third coin.
Snap Shot: Two rubber bands visibly link in a spectator's hands. The spectator can keep the linked bands as a souvenir.
Providence 93: Your watch makes a signed card change to another card and back several times. At the end the signed card appears folded behind your watchstrap.
It's Shoe Time: A signed card appears folded inside your shoe. Then a wineglass appears in the same shoe.
The Flip Flap Flourish: Like the wand spin, but done with cards.
The Out of Control Shuffle: A genuine overhand shuffle followed by a genuine running cut. At the end, the order of the entire deck is intact.
All of the essays in the theory section are well thought out and thought provoking, and all of the magic is original, visual and entertaining.
There are two introductions, one by Max Maven and one by Piet Forton, as well as an epilogue by Mike Caveney. The layout of the book is in the Kauffman tradition. The Book that is its other name is incredibly well done, as are the illustrations. The book is hardbound and contains 177-pages. It is full of running gags and humorous commentary.
